By: Marcus | September 26th, 2009
The round started off with Melbourne traveling to Adelaide, aiming for a win to breath some life into the team. Just 7 minutes in Ward gave Melbourne there first, and Brebner wrapped up the game in the 90th after Galekovic could only parry Thompson’s shot into his path. Melbourne continued there dominance over Adelaide securing there 7th straight win against them.
The next match of the round saw another dominate performance as Central Coast came out and blasted Gold Coast. Travis scored the first goal for the Mariner’s in the 25th minute, Matt Simon continued his good form and made it 2-0 on 53rd minute and Hutchinson completed the rout with the third goal in the 69th minute.
In the other matches Wellington looked to have secured all 3 points after Ifill scored early, but North Queensland stole an undeserving point in the last play of the match as a Robbie Fowler free kick eventually made its way to Grossman who hit the back of the net.
Newcastle undeservedly lost to Sydney FC 2-1 after Bridge’s sweet strike was cancelled out by Matt Thompson who was played in by a brilliant Kaz Patafta, only for the Jets to lose the points when there keeper Kennedy gave away and conceded a penalty.
In the last match of the week Perth marched passed a error ridden Brisbane. McGloughan scored an embarrassing own goal for the Roar, then Wayne Srhoj doubled Perth’s advantage chipping Brisbane keeper Liam Reddy. After th break Henrique continued his solid form as he brought Brisbane back into the match with a good solo effort, but the Glory hit back as Sterjovski teed up Jelic for a tap in making it 3-1. A couple of minutes later Van Djik pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 then controversy hit as Chris Coyne appeared to nudge Reddy under the ball as he jumped for it, the ball escaped Reddy’s grasp and made it a 4-2 win to Perth.
