Milligan’s Island
By: Daniel | May 14th, 2008Theres been massive amounts of controversy recently surrounding former Sydney FC defender Mark Milligan.Basically what happened was that the 22 year old was suposed to show up for an Olyroo camp, however he didnt decide to rock up…
Of course, both sides had their opinions. Milligan’s people reckon the FFA was informed that Mark wasn’t able to make it and the people at the FFA and Olyroo camp claim they recieved no such notification! Where was Milligan during all this? Reports clain that he was in England, trying out for Arsenal and attempting to pen a deal! This lead to a whole lot of bans to the player and it all got ugly from then on..
To tell you the truth, i don’t rate the player at all, especially since his shithouse season for Sydney FC this year and his performance for Australia in the Asian Cup.
The Club vs Country fight will always exist within Australian football, but the fact that he didn’t even give a phone call to Graham Arnold (coach of the Olyroos) to say that he was’nt able to make it, just goes to show what kind of a character he is. This isnt the first time this has happened… its actually the 3rd. First was when he was trying out for Metz in France and the Second was when he did’nt show up for Sydney FC’s annual presentation night. So he either has a Muppet for an agent or the kids just increadibly stupid… In these acts he shows everyone that he believes he above the national team (and hes suposed to be the captain? ummm no…)
I don’t have anything against the guy going ahead and trying to better himself by going to a better league to see how far up the ladder he can go. That would be fantastic for Australian Football in general. However the way it was managed by himself and the Agents was just amicable

Mark Milligan is an absolute twat. I wish he would just disappear into the void that seems to engulf Aussie players overseas so I don’t ever have to hear about his ridiculous antics again.
