Newcastle Jets Vs. Central Coast Mariners
Struggling Newcastle were expected to be beaten to a pulp by there fierce rivals Central Coast in the F3 derby, the Mariner’s however went missing. Within 15 minutes the Jets were 2-0 up courtesy of Bridges and Haliti, Kwasnik replied on 19 minutes but the Jets held our for the impressive 2-1 win.

Melbourne Victory Vs. Adelaide United
Melbourne recorded there eighth straight win against United as first time starter Mate Dugandzic scored a brace to set up a 3-1 win. Report here.

North Queensland Fury Vs. Perth Glory
Perth scored early on through Victor Sikora, which made the Fury look down and out. However some quick thinking from a free kick from Fury marquee Robbie Fowler saw his team level, before substitute Dyron Daal scored and absolute screamer to hand the North Queensland boys there first win.

Wellington Phoenix Vs. Gold Coast United
In the match of the round high flying United traveled to New Zealand to tackle the Phoenix, the outcome was unbelievable, it left many people who checked the scores go ‘Bullshit, that must be a typo!’. Wellington lead by Bertos and Daniel smashed 4 goals in a 15 minute period in the second half to get some much needed respect as they made a statement to the rest of the league.

Sydney FC Vs. Brisbane Roar
These teams previously met 4 weeks ago in round 8, with Van Djik’s solitary goal giving the Roar all 3 points. This time around however Sydney turned the tables. They scored twice in the start of the second half and looked in control despite Roar’s fight back. Report here.

Well round 14 is here, and while it won’t be nearly as exciting as last round (where I got to use my press pass to watch the game in Canberra), there are still some interesting clashes.

Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar 0-2

Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners, Saturday, 7pm
Melbourne are looking good, and find themselves in second, one point behind Sydney. Central Coast are also going along nicely, and the point last week against Adelaide sees them sitting comfortably in fourth. While on paper Melbourne should take this game, Central Coast have an ability to pick up the surprising wins, and I see this trend continuing. CCM 2-1

Gold Coast United v Sydney FC, Saturday, 9pm
Gold Coast haven’t looked great, whereas Sydney are looking rather good, so I’m expecting Sydney to go out and show us why they deserve to be at the top of the table. Sydney 2-0

Wellington Phoenix v Perth Glory, Sunday, 3pm
Wellington have looked good on occasions (ie their wins over Gold Coast and Newcastle) but have also been horribly inconsistent, and find themselves sitting in sixth. Perth are also having trouble finding consistency, and are only one point above the Phoenix, in fifth. I have a feeling Perth will get a smash and grab here, and while the form guide may suggest a Wellington win, I’m predicting something akin to Inter v Dynamo midweek (in the CL). Perth 2-1

Newcastle Jets v North Queensland Fury, Sunday, 5pm
The battle of the cellar dwellers is an important clash for both teams, especially the Fury, as a win could see them move into the top six. North Queensland were impressive against Gold Coast, while the Jets have meandered along with a win against Central Coast, a draw against Brisbane and most recently a loss to Wellington, so on paper it looks like an away win. But while the Fury are looking good, I can’t separate the sides. 1-1 Draw

Well a big weekend ahead for the A League, with the F3 derby, a Grand Final rematch, and Perth Glory taking on Robbie Fowler (well…North Queensland Fury).

Newcastle Jets v Central Coast Mariners, Friday 8.00pm
The F3 Derby. The big game. What more needs to be said. Well, there is the fact that the game is between 5th and 9th, so not exactly the game of the week, but still it will make for an interesting game. While Central Coast dished it out to Brisbane last week, and Newcastle were on the end of a Melbourne Victory barrage, it’s still a derby, and any derby is difficult to call. But still, the Mariners will be much too strong for the Jets, so 2-1 Jets.

Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United, Saturday, 6.30pm
The Grand Final rematch! and a game that could be a decisive one for both teams. Melbourne are in 3rd and pushing for top spot, while Adelaide are sitting in 6th, looking to push upwards for the top four. A loss for either team will set them back, and a win would be most welcomed by either. And therefore, it’s clearly going to be a bore draw. So fearless forecast for the week, 0-0 Draw.

North Queensland Fury v Perth Glory, Saturday, 8.30pm
Ohh, now this is a game I’ll be watching. Glory were going well, but will their campaign be derailed after a loss to Gold Coast? Fury have looked ok, but really need to start picking up three points rather than just the one. But I really think the Glory will bounce back from their lost to Gold Coast, and take this game. 2-1 Perth.

Wellington Phoenix v Gold Coast United, Sunday, 3.00pm
Gold Coast managed to pick up all three points against Perth on the weekend, but away to Wellington will still pose them problems. Wellington kept the Fury to a one all draw in Townsville and I can see them holding Gold Coast as well, so for my bold prediction for the week I’m going for a 1-1 draw.

Sydney FC v Brisbane Roar, Sunday, 5.00pm
Now this is a big game. Both teams lost last weekend, and will both be looking to bounce back. Sydney will be looking to prove the loss to Adelaide was just a blip, while the Roar will be looking to regroup and get their season back on track. However, I can’t see the Roar getting past a strong Sydney time, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Sydney put two or three past Brisbane (especially if Kofi is playing). So with that said, I’m tipping a 2-0 victory for Sydney.

After Sydney’s 3-0 drubbing of Melbourne last week it was expected that they would see of United, how have only won at home twice this season. Cristiano showed how unpredictable the A-League is scoring 2 goals and handing the Red’s all 3 points against the ladder leaders. Aloisi came off the bench to score for Sydney but it wasn’t enough. 2-1 United.

Central Coast Mariners Vs. Brisbane Roar
After the sacking of Brisbane coach Frank Farina it was hoped that the players would come out and give a strong performance, they did anything but. CCM came out firing with Travis and Hutchinson scoring early before Bojic finished off the Roar as CCM showed there attacking game can as good as there defensive game.

North Queensland Fury Vs. Wellington
The Fury were aiming to get there second win of the season and Wellington were aiming to break there streak of draws in the battle of the cellar dwellers. Wellington looked as though they were a shoe in to win when Iffil’s cross found Tim Brown to give them the lead. However some poor defensive work from the Phoenix saw Robbie Fowler alone in the box, he took his chance and it was 1-1. 6 consecutive draws for Wellington, a new record.

Newcastle Jets Vs. Melbourne Victory
Melbourne were hoping to make amends for the shocking display against Sydney last week. Early on Haliti scored his second goal against Melbourne this season to give the home side the lead. Somehow Newcastle squandered numerous chances that they should have taken and Melbourne made them pay. Archie chipped Kennedy, then Hernandez’ sublime effort hit the post and fell to Pondeljak who made no mistake. Hernandez then managed to slide the ball under Kennedy to hand Melbourne a plucky 3-1 win. (TWG highlights here, shortest video I could find.)

Gold Coast United Vs. Perth Glory
United went back on top following there 2-1 win over Perth. Howarth’s goal for Perth canceled out Neville’s own goal, but it only took United 1 minute to reclam the lead as Shane Smeltz scored his 10th goal of the season.

Gold Coast United Vs. Wellington Phoenix
The round kicked off with Wellington traveling across to the Gold Coast to tackle United. Wellington controlled the match and missed several opportunities, hitting the bar on one occasion, United lucky to escape with a point. 0-0

Perth Glory Vs. North Queensland Fury
Glory went into this match expecting to take all 3 points, after Sterjovski converted the penalty it looked as though they had taken them. But on 70 minutes controversy stuck, a Fury cross was juggled by Perth keeper Tando Velaphi and he was pushed over the goal line. Should have been disallowed but North Queensland got a point. 1-1

Melbourne Victory Vs. Brisbane Roar
In a fiery encounter Melbourne saw off Brisbane 2-1 following goals from Ney Fabiano and Adrian Leijer while Reinaldo scored the Roar’s goal. There was controversy in this game as well with Danny Tiatto receiving a 1 week suspension and Charlie Miller copping 2 weeks for putting Ex-Brisbane player Robbie Kruse down behind play.

Sydney FC Vs. Central Coast Mariners
Sydney jumped to the top of the table following there 1-0 win over CCM at SFS. Terry McFlyn scored the only goal in the match in his first match back with a well taken header.

Adelaide United Vs. Newcastle Jets
After 5 minutes of play Newcastle went one up after some nice build up play Song received the ball and slotted the ball past Galekovic. Adelaide kept pushing forward and late on in the match Cassio delivered the equalizer with a simply stunning volley. It found the top right corner and tied the scores, that’s how it stayed. 1-1

Round 11 time. It will be interesting to see how the Roar react to losing Farina (at home against CCM) and if Gold Coast can keep out the Glory. So if your looking for all your Round 11 tips, you’re at the right place:

Adelaide United v Sydney FC, Friday, 8pm
Will be a close game. Sydney are looking good, and while I think they’ll find Adelaide at home hard to break down, they’ll still edge it, Adelaide 1-0

Brisbane Roar v Central Coast, Saturday, 6:30pm
Normally a club bounces back after getting a new manager, but after the turmoil surrounding Farina’s departure, I can’t see the Roar getting anything out of this. Central Coast 2-1

North Queensland Fury v Wellington, Saturday, 8:30pm
I keep tipping North Queensland, and I honestly think they’re going to pick up something soon. And as Fox Sports football pundit Paul Trimboli agrees with me, I’m thinking Fury will finally put a few goals away, Fury 3-1

Newcastle Jets v Melbourne Victory, Sunday, 3pm
As much as the Jets will be a better side with the return of their Young Socceroos, I think the Victory will bounce back from their loss to Sydney. Victory 2-1

Gold Coast United v Perth,Sunday, 5pm
A tough game for both teams, and probably the game of the week. While Perth haven’t looked especially convincing, I’m convinced this is the week they will step up, and hurt Gold Coast on the counter. So watch this game, and see my prediction come true. Perth 1-0

Well have a good weekend folks.

Well unfortunately I didn’t get this up last night, so can’t brag about tipping the Perth v Adelaide game and the Melb v Syd game correctly. But, here is a quick preview of the other games:

Melbourne Victory 0-3 Sydney FC

Perth Glory 1-0 Adelaide United

Central Coast Mariners v North Queensland Fury, Sunday, 3pm
My Tip: This is a difficult one. Central Coast are performing adequately, and are at home, while Fury are still the A League cellar dwellers. But nevertheless I’m going to put my neck on the line and say 2-1 Fury.

Brisbane Roar v Gold Coast United, Sunday, 5pm
My Tip: The local derby, should be a very exciting game. With Shane Smeltz away on international duty, I could see Roar sneaking the win. However, I think I’ll put my money on a draw. 2-2 Draw

Well have a good weekend everyone. I for one am heading over to the SFS to watch Australia take down the Oranje!

Three draws, a very intense Melbourne Brisbane game, and a good win for Sydney made for a long weekend of contrast.

Gold Coast United 0-0 Wellington Phoenix
Yawn… A bore draw at Skilled Park further added to Gold Coast’s woes, after only 4,209 people filed into the stadium to see the new bling team being held by 8th placed Wellington. The abismal crowd will not please the FFA, especially considering the star players in the GCU lineup, and that until this week they were top of the table.

By all reports Wellington actually played well, and even Gold Coast manager Miron Bleiberg admited after the game that “Had we scored it would have been cruel to them,” and that “We didn’t deserve to win.”

Also, we are looking for bloggers for both Gold Coast United and Wellington Phoneix, so if your interested, read this.

Perth Glory 1-1 North Queensland Fury
North Queensland Fury bounced back from having Ufuk Talay sent off for simulation and snatched a point from the Glory in Perth. A solid crowd and a sunny day set the scene for what looked like a Perth win, after Talay was sent off in the 45th and Mile Sterjovski slotted home a penalty in the 49th. But a controversial own goal from Tando Velaphi, who appeared to have been pushed over the line by Chris Grossman, sent the Fury level in the 71st, and it stayed that way for the remainer. You can read a full match report, including the conclusion that Velaphi was fouled, at Ben’s Perth Offside

My tip for this game was 2-1 Perth, so not quite, but if you agree with Ben’s opinion, I would have been correct if the referee didn’t rob Perth blind.

Melbourne Victory 2-1 Brisbane Roar
A 72nd minute winner from Adam Leijer saw Melbourne Victory edge the Roar in a game featuring ‘the bird’ from Danny Tiatto. As two of our bloggers have already covered the game, I won’t go into detail, and you can read Marcus’ acount here or Ahmed’s here.

Tip for this game was 1-0 Melbourne, so i got the result and the margin right .

Sydney FC 1-0 Central Coast Mariners
A single goal from Terry McFlynn on his return from injury pushed Sydney FC past local (well localish) rivals Central Coast, and pushed Sydney past Melbourne to the pinnacle of the A League. A quality performance in front of a solid crowd of 13,887 saw Sydney reclaim first on the table. Despite missing frontman Matt Simon due to injury, Central Coast fought on, and almost managed a second half comeback, but couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

It was a promising perfomance for Sydney, and it seems as if new coach Vitezslav Lavicka has made the Sky Blues a polished, passing team. For Central Coast however, the loss leaves them on equal 5th, a respectable position, but a loss next week could theoretically see them down to 8th, and thus will be looking to bounce back against North Queensland. Sydney will be looking to carry the momentum forward as they face Melbourne on friday night, in what is sure to be the game of the week.

My tip last week was 2-0 Sydney, so I got the win right, and almost the score.

Adelaide United 1-1 Newcastle Jets
A late Cassio goal put Adelaide equal with the Jets on Monday afternoon at Hindmarsh stadium. An opener in the 6th minute from Korean midfielder Jin-Hyung Song looked as if it wouldn’t be enough to get Newcastle a point, but a missed penalty from Travis Dodd and a very slow start from Adelaide saw them only manage the lone Cassio goal.

Jet’s debutant Michael Bridges managed 80 minutes, and his addition to the lineup, plus the return of Newcastle’s Young Socceroos bodes well for the Jets, who are looking to move clear of second last. However, Adelaide will have to improve if they are to claim all three points against Perth this week, as they try to push into the top six.

My tip was Adelaide 1-0, so close, but not on the money.

So not the greatest week of tipping for me I’m afraid, but some interesting games made the weekend bearable. Look out for my round 10 preview coming soon.

Newcastle pretty much dominated the match and were unfortunate not to score. In the 80th minute they gave away a penalty and undeservedly lost 3 points as Sterjovski rammed it home. Ben’s report here.

Newcastle Vs. Perth
Newcastle pretty much dominated the match and were unfortunate not to score. In the 80th minute they gave away a penalty and undeservedly lost 3 points as Sterjovski rammed it home. Ben’s report here.

Gold Coast Vs. Melbourne
The teams played out a 5 goal thriller, the main talking points were Hernandez’s goal and Melbourne given a second chance from the spot. My report here.

Wellington Vs. CCM
Central Coast and Wellington played out a nil-nil draw. Central Coast had a goal disallowed due to offside, I think it was to close to call but Simon was lurking on the wrong side for a while.

Brisbane Vs. Sydney
With top spot up for grabs if Sydney had to win there fans would have expected a win, but Van Djik scored late on and secured all points for Brisbane. Ahmed’s report here, Michael’s here.

North Queensland Vs. Adelaide
North Queensland continued there dismal start to there debut season slumping to a 2-0 defeat to United. Pantelis scored midway through proceedings and Victorian Matt Leckie wrapped up all 3 points with a nice solo effort towards the end.

Carlos’s goal again
Gold Coast United 0-0 Wellington Phoenix
A bore draw up on the Gold Coast, which will be reviewed in full in the review on Tuesday.

Perth Glory v North Queensland Fury, ME Bank Stadium, Perth, Saturday, 5:30pm
My Tip: Perth should be much too strong at home for the Fury, but I don’t think it will be a walk over. 2-1 Perth

Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, Saturday, 7:30pm
My Tip: Should be an interesting tip, but I think the Victory should be able to see off a strong Brisbane side. 1-0 Melbourne

Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners, Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney, Monday, 3pm
My Tip: Sydney FC are missing Kofi, but the return of some other players should see Sydney home. 2-0 Sydney

Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets, Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide, Monday, 5pm
My Tip: Adelaide should be able to hold out against a Jet’s team performing poorly. Adelaide 1-0

Well enjoy the weekend!
